The most popular theme for weddings and milestone birthdays in SF, and arguably the most photogenic.
- Dealer attire: Black vests over white tuxedo shirts, black bow ties, fedoras optional. Female dealers in flapper-inspired drop-waist dresses if you want to lean in (we'll coordinate).
- Music: Live jazz quartet (trumpet, bass, drums, piano) is the gold standard. Recorded period jazz works too — Ella, Louis, Duke, plus modern artists like Postmodern Jukebox.
- Decor: Black and gold, Art Deco geometry, oversized feather centerpieces, vintage glassware. Avoid plastic feather boas — they cheap-up the look fast.
- Best venues: Bently Reserve, the Old Mint, the Westin St. Francis (gilt ballrooms suit it).
- Avoid: Too many "speakeasy" puns. Theme costumes for guests work but only if everyone commits.
2. James Bond / 007
The corporate favorite for executive events and milestone birthdays for finance and tech crowds.
- Dealer attire: Full white-tie black tie. Bow ties, cufflinks, polished shoes. The crispest version of the casino dealer look.
- Music: Bond themes throughout the night (instrumental versions during play, vocal versions during transitions). Add Sinatra, Sade, and modern atmospheric tracks.
- Decor: Black tablecloths, silver and white accents, martini glassware everywhere. A signature "Vesper" or shaken martini bar.
- Featured game: Baccarat. It's the Bond game. Even if guests don't know how to play, a full-size baccarat table is a statement piece.
- Best venues: Hotel ballrooms, Bently Reserve, the Pearl, City View at the Metreon (panoramic SF views).
3. Classic Vegas
The most-requested casino theme, and the one that risks feeling generic if not executed thoughtfully. The trick is leaning into the kitsch deliberately rather than half-heartedly.
- Dealer attire: Bright red or gold vests over white shirts, name tags optional. Lean into the showroom energy.
- Music: Rat Pack era (Sinatra, Martin, Davis Jr.) plus modern Vegas residency tracks (Bruno Mars, Elvis if your crowd skews older).
- Decor: Marquee letter signs, Showgirl-style feathers (sparingly), big "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign for photo backdrop, neon accents.
- Add-ons: Showgirls (rentable through SF agencies) for cocktail-hour photo ops, Elvis impersonator for a 15-minute set, "Wedding chapel" photo backdrop with rented officiant for tongue-in-cheek vow renewals.
- Best venues: Larger venues that can absorb the kitsch — City View, the Pearl, Terra Gallery.
4. Wild West / Western Saloon
A favorite for outdoor events in Napa, Sonoma, and the East Bay. Less common in SF proper.
- Dealer attire: Vests, garters on the sleeves, bowlers or western hats, period-appropriate gambler look. Female dealers in saloon-style dresses (consult on details).

- Featured game: Poker. Specifically Texas Hold'em with a tournament format and a "high noon" final table.
- Best venues: Vineyard estates, ranch venues, Cornerstone Sonoma, Carneros Resort.
5. Monte Carlo / European Casino
The most upscale theme, and the right choice when a host wants sophistication without the costume associations of Gatsby or Bond.
- Dealer attire: Black tie or formal vests. Croupiers in matching attire. Nothing flashy.
- Music: Live string quartet during cocktail hour, transitioning to jazz piano during play.
- Decor: Cream and gold tones, candle-heavy lighting, fresh flowers in low arrangements (no centerpieces blocking sightlines), silver service. Crystal glassware throughout.
- Featured games: Roulette and baccarat as the marquee games (these are what real Monte Carlo casinos are famous for). Limit blackjack to two tables to maintain the European feel.
- Best venues: Cavallo Point, the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, the Fairmont, private Pacific Heights or Sea Cliff estates.
General execution tips for any theme
- Pick one theme and commit. A "Bond Gatsby Vegas Western" mash-up is just confusing.
- Coordinate dealer attire 4+ weeks ahead. Some looks require us to source specific pieces.
- Brief guests on dress code. A theme everyone dressed for hits harder than one only the staff committed to.
- Photograph it. Themes invest in production value; a good photographer makes that ROI tangible.
- Don't theme the catering past 30%. A Roaring '20s menu is charming; a fully period-accurate menu is dry.
